These days many of us are tired but wired; running on empty with little left in the tank for ourselves, let alone our relationships.
After a hard day at work, battling home through traffic jams, getting dinner on the table, trying to spend some quality time with the kids etc, sometimes we only have enough energy left to collapse onto the couch with a glass of wine and our smart phone for company. Our partner might well be sitting on the other side of the couch doing the same thing.
The weekends aren’t much better, as they’re spent catching up with chores and taking children to sports.
So how can magnesium help? We’re talking specifically about transdermal magnesium (getting your magnesium through your skin using, for example, our Epsom salt or Magnesium oils) which is a quick and easy wellness hack that you can safely add to your daily routine.
Here are some of the ways you might find this nourishing mineral helps you and, in turn, your relationships.
Magnesium can help:
Calm your mind
Magnesium is often called the ‘mind mineral’ due to its ability to calm a racing mind and lower feelings of anxiety. Magnesium supports our adrenal glands, which get over-worked by stress.
Sometimes in relationships, despite our best intentions, we can get annoyed and say things in the heat of the moment that we don’t mean. If we feel less stressed and anxious, we’re more likely to respond in a calm, positive manner.
Stabilise your mood
Healthy levels of magnesium have been linked to increased serotonin production – your ‘happy hormones’.
If you feel happier, there is bound to be a virtuous cycle impact on your relationships.
Support healthy sleep
A magnesium bath before bedtime helps to relax muscles and mind, ready to ease into sleep.
Everything just seems better after a good sleep, don’t you find?
Also related to sleep, we’ve heard from a few customers now that they buy our Magnesium Oil for their partner to help with their restless legs. They love it because both of them benefit – the person with restless legs has a less disturbed sleep, and their partner isn’t being accidentally kicked awake in the middle of the night!
Boost your energy levels
Magnesium helps to regulate the activity of over 325 bodily functions, including muscle control, electrical impulses, and energy production.
Again, when you have more energy, life just seems easier and problems not as insurmountable. Just think – you’ll both have the energy to finish the household chore list, AND have time to relax together!
Ease sore, tense muscles
Magnesium helps your muscles relax, reducing muscle tics and twitches.
It’s hard to focus on someone else’s needs when your body feels tight and sore. Tense neck and shoulder muscles can often lead to headaches. I know if I have a headache, I’m not the best conversationalist!
So, what’s the best way to get this lovely, soothing transdermal magnesium?
You can do these for yourself or treat your significant other.
Relax in a magnesium-based bath
We offer several bath soaks that fit the bill:
- Natural Epsom Salt (this is our naturally-sourced, food grade salt)
- Gold Label Epsom Salt
- Magnesium Flakes
- Dead Sea Salt
Add 1 – 2 cupsful of your choice of salt to a warm bath (while the tap is still running so it dissolves more quickly) and lie back and relax for at least 15 minutes. If it’s a romantic treat, light a candle and play some soothing music for a zen, spa-like vibe.
Have a Magnesium Oil massage
Magnesium oil can help relieve muscular aches and discomfort, as well as safely increase your magnesium levels.
Apply the magnesium oil to the parts of your body that feel sore or strained, and massage in. It’s rapidly absorbed. It can be nice to use a moisturising cream at the same time. Ours is a concentrated oil that can tingle sensitive skin. Avoid contact with your eyes, broken skin and other sensitive areas.
We think it’s ideal to use while giving your partner a foot massage. But remember to wash your hands afterwards – an accidental face rub could prove eye-watering!
Enjoy a magnesium-filled chocolatey treat
Have you tried chocolate avocado mousse before?
It’s very quick and simple to make, and is a really satisfying dessert containing nourishing fats and nutrients.
This is the recipe we use. We hope you enjoy it.
It’s not transdermal magnesium, but it’s definitely worth trying!
