If ants are a problem on your property, here is a simple, natural home-made ant bait to try, using Blants natural pure borax.
All you need is:
- 1 tablespoon borax
- ½ cup sugar (white, caster or icing)
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- Cotton wool balls
- Small containers
Directions:
Dilute the sugar and the borax in the water to make a ‘syrup’.
Soak cotton wool balls in the solution.
Place them inside a container* (a screw top one like a pill tub is ideal) that has a small hole (about 2-3mm) drilled on the lid or the side, to let the ants in and out again.
Place the baited containers around your property. Place them near any ant trails you can see, often by doors or cracks in the wall. You may be able to follow the trail to a nest under stones or pavers in the garden. The ants will take the mixture back to the nest and start to die off. It may take a few days to see it working.
* Being in a container keeps it safe for any inquisitive or hungry pets (our dog in other words!). If you don’t have pets or children, you may prefer to pour the ant bait straight into eg a plastic milk bottle lid and place on the ant trail.
